Talk:List of short stories and novellas
From MangalaWiki
Is "A Martian Childhood" an extract of Green Mars? Nirgal's childhood being Part I of Green Mars. Then it shouldn't be in the short story list and a mention in the Green Mars page should be enough. There have been chapters of novels (Red Mars, Fifty Degrees Below) published in magazines I suppose as "teasers" for the novels themselves.

Yes, I just obtained a copy of the issue of Asimov's SF Magazine where it was printed, and it is identical with the first chapter of Green Mars.
I could go either way in terms of listing it here; since it was published under a different title I can see how is might make sense to list it here, perhaps with an asterisk or some sort of qualification. It strikes me as similar to the situation with the two stories that were incorporated into Icehenge, although I haven't done a comparison to see where those pieces end up in the novel itself.
As an aside, the artwork for the cover of the issue of Asimov's SF Magazine where this story was published shows Nirgal and Coyote with a boulder car, one of the few examples of art of the characters I've seen:

I'm left Sense and Science: Davis, March 1979 on the list with an annotation that it is a poem; it is listed as such on the Locus list.
