BAR HARBOR — College of the Atlantic’s weekly Coffee & Conversation series begins the summer season with “Sci-fi and Our Climate Reality,” featuring science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson, on Tuesday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m.
Robinson, hailed by The New Yorker as "one of the greatest living science-fiction writers,” will join COA professor Susan Letcher to discuss climate change, writing utopian fiction and the “last, best hope” to save the planet.
Robinson is the author of 22 novels and numerous short stories and is best known for his Mars trilogy. Many of his novels and stories have ecological, cultural and political themes and feature scientists as heroes.
He has won numerous awards, including the Hugo Award for Best Novel, the Nebula Award for Best Novel and the World Fantasy Award. The Atlantic has called Robinson's work "the gold standard of realistic, and highly literary, science-fiction writing."
